    A (New) Motorist's Prayer

    Dear God,

Firstly, I want to thank you for giving me the courage to drive on Indian roads.

Even though driving gives me a feeling of self-dependence, and there haven't been any accidents (thank you, God for that too!), one thing makes me very uncomfortable.

The problem lies in the pedestrians, you see. For some reason, they hate walking on the footpaths. Of course, many roads don't have footpaths, but that is another problem altogether. All pedestrians love walking almost in the middle of the main road, and never cross the road at the pedestrian (zebra) crossing. They refuse to respond when they hear the honk of an approaching car. As a result, other motorists and I have to be extra-alert, which can be easily avoided.

I pray, dear God, for you to grant the pedestrians intelligence and common sense.

    Amen.
